I am so honored to be able to have fresh ingredients available for my family and healthy eating is a part of my everyday life” says Theresa Cannavo, winner of $10,000 on The Food Network Challenge “Crazy for Cookies” episode originally aired in August in 2006.
We have created the most beautiful market bags, purses, handbags, wallets, and clothing from different feed bags. The feed bags have colorful and creative artwork that is used in the making of items for domestic purposes and use-fullness.
Theresa Cannavo, an autodidactic craftsperson with over 30 years of experience, reupholstering fine antiques and heirlooms, slipcovering, creating window treatments, outdoor furniture, sewing cushions, pillows and many other specialty items.
“My parents started refinishing and re-upholstering furniture in our garage. The business just continued to grow and so did my knowledge of being an entrepreneur and a craftsperson. I learned how to sew and upholster from the many wonderful and talented people that my parents hired to work for them. There were many times that I taught myself how to accomplish something by just taking something apart and putting it back together again. Now that I am older, I realize what havoc I had created for my parents when I just had to take apart the sewing machines and other tools to see how they worked! Well… I just needed to know.
I still enjoy the feeling of taking something apart and putting it back together even better than what it was before. It gives me a great sense of pride and accomplishment to see the reaction on a customers face when they come to see their piece that has been renovated. Sometimes I even gets hugs and kisses, it makes us that emotional!
I started creating and working on furniture at a very young age. I’ve always had a passion for taking things apart and putting them back together. Re-creating a beautiful piece of furniture or a magnificent window treatment is my specialty. The years and years of acquired knowledge, from some of the greatest craftspeople, especially my mother and father, makes my work stand apart from others.
It is only appropriate that I now have a studio in one of the mills in Winsted where I first learned my craft. With the high ceilings and large, tall windows, it is a warm, inviting and comfortable atmosphere, conducive to creativity and inspiration.
My studio at Whiting Mills is where you can find many hand sewn products, such as aromatic warmers and recycled market bags. Many items for sale include a large selection of fabrics, jewelry, knitted sweaters and other handcrafted pieces of art. Please come for a visit or possibly a lesson in sewing or upholstery!”
